Welcome to NOR Junior Theatre!
Founded in 1968, the North of the River Junior Theatre Program has been a cherished part of the North of the River Recreation and Park District for generations. What began with the first production of Toby Tyler in 1969 has grown into a vibrant program that provides a positive, safe, and inclusive environment where youth are encouraged to be themselves.
Our program focuses on building foundational theatre skills while learning the value of teamwork, responsibility, and commitment by collaborating on all aspects of a production. Whether a child is stepping on stage for the first time or looking to grow their performance experience, our junior theatre program provides age-appropriate instruction led by passionate theatre professionals. Through engaging rehearsals and live productions, students explore acting, singing, movement, and storytelling in a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
Above all, NOR Junior Theatre is about having fun, using your imagination, and creating lasting memories while building confidence that extends far beyond the stage. At NOR Junior Theatre, every child has a voice, every story matters, and every performance is a chance to step into the spotlight.
About the show: The Addams Family, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and a dilemma that’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family—a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before—keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. *Program qualifies for a lower district rate.

About the show: Trolls JR. is based on the irreverent DreamWorks Animation movie franchise and features a colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters. The show follows the overly optimistic Trolls, constantly with a song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have Trolls in their stomach. The Troll thespians in Poppy’s company live by their motto: the show must go on. But when a tyrannical foreign emissary arrives in Bergenland, expectations are raised, forcing the Trolls to totally rework their show or risk being served up in the name of diplomacy by a Chef rehired and out for revenge. *Program qualifies for a lower district rate.
